學術英語是高校大學英語教學的主要內容，學術英語分為通用學術英語（EGAP：English for GeneraI Academic Purposes）和專門學術英語（ESA P=English for Specific Academic Purposes）。前者主要訓練學生各學科通用的學術口語交流能力和學術書面交流能力，例如，聽講座、做筆記、報告展示、撰寫文獻綜述和課程論文、參加學術討論等能力。後者是以某一特定學科領域（如金融、法律、工程、醫學等）為內容的英語教學，注重這一學科的特定語言（如詞彙、句法、篇章、體裁）和工作場所交流技能的教學。 新核心學術英語（EAP）繫列教材包括通用學術英語教材和專門學術英語教材。通用學術英語教材不被限定在專業內容框架內，而是圍繞人文科學和自然科學的話題進行跨學科的聽、說、讀、寫學術技能的訓練。專門學術英語教材則按農業、工程、金融、法律、海事、新聞、等
